MELD score measures the seriousness of your liver disease. MELD score is calculated for patients above the age of 12 years while PELD score is calculated for patients aged less than 12 years. MELD stands for `Model for End stage Liver Disease. MELD score ranges between 6 and 40 on the basis of some blood tests of the patient. Higher the score, more is the urgency for the patient to get Liver Transplant on priority. Higher MELD score will put the patient on a higher ranking in the waiting list.
If your MELD score is:
Under 10: It will be recalculated once a year.
11-18: It will be recalculated every 3 months.
19-24: It will be recalculated once a month.
25 or higher: It will be recalculated every week.
