PELD score measures the seriousness of your liver disease. PELD score is calculated for patients below the age of 12 years while MELD score is calculated for patients aged more than 12 years. PELD stands for `Pediatric End stage Liver Disease. MELD score ranges between 6 and 40 on the basis of some blood tests of the patient. Higher the score, more is the urgency for the patient to get Liver Transplant on priority. Higher PELD score will put the patient on a higher ranking in the waiting list.
PELD Score is calculated by using the following formula :
PELD Score = 4.80[Ln serum bilirubin (mg/dL)] + 18.57[Ln INR] - 6.87[Ln albumin (g/dL)] + 4.36(<1 year old) + 6.67(growth failure)
